Solar-based irrigation helping farmers
Mahadev Sahni, a farmer in East Champaran district, has never been so vocal while telling fellow farmers from his village about the solar pumps. Mahadev uses solar pumps for irrigating his field and is a clean energy entrepreneur. Legal services authority, civil society, and law colleges together promote good governance


Bihar State Legal Services Authority and Sehgal Foundation organized an orientation program on National Legal Services Authority Scheme, 2015 (Effective Implementation of Poverty Alleviation Schemes). Held on September 13, 2017, at Bihar Industries Association, Patna, the program familiarized students and paralegal volunteers with poverty alleviation schemes and shared good practices of legal aid, so that they can be integrated into community outreach interventions and increase the legal aid and legal awareness in communities. This type of joint effort between the state legal services authority, law colleges, and nonprofits are instrumental in promoting good governance in India.
Participants included 120 students and faculty members of Bihar Institute of Law; Magadh University; Chanakya National Law University; Patna Law College, Patna University; and paralegal volunteers of District Legal Services Authority, Patna. Member Secretary Shri Sunil Dutta Mishra of Bihar State Legal Services Authority was the chief guest of the program.

Farmers share their agriculture learning at the Kisaan Sammelan


Over 200 farmers from sixty villages across Nuh, Haryana, and Alwar, Rajasthan, gathered for the Kisaan Sammelan (farmers' conclave) organized in village Ghaghas under the Krishi Jyoti project that has been benefiting farmers for the last eight years. The project is supported by Mosaic Fertilizers Pvt. Ltd. and The Mosaic Company Foundation in partnership with Sehgal Foundation. Mosaic India's managing director, Kevin Kimm; sales director, Robin Edwin; and country agronomist, Shashikant Bhende, participated in the event along with Sehgal Foundation's chief executive officer, Ajay Pandey, and chief financial officer, Ramesh Kapahi.
Farmers shared their experiences on how they have benefited from the project. In his speech, Kevin Kimm spoke about the importance of educating farmers on soil nutrition. Ajay Pandey spoke about the important role of women farmers in India. Farmers expressed appreciation to Mosaic team members for their encouragement and support to farming communities.

Mobile agri clinic brings technology to farmers

With support from Pi Foundation, Sehgal Foundation recently established a mobile agri clinic under a partnership project Kaushal Krishak (farmer skills) in Samastipur, Bihar. The clinic will serve thirty-eight villages providing doorstep advice on agriculture technologies, agronomic practices, diseases and pests, and nutrient management of different crops. Spot soil testing facility for macro- and micronutrients will enable farmers to learn about soil health along with information on government schemes. The agri mobile van was inaugurated in the presence of Pi Foundation representative, Mr. Ravi; chief guest, Mr. Chandrashekhar Singh, district agriculture officer; and other district level representatives.

Young Indian diaspora learn about development work

Led by the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, as part of the 41st Know India Programme for Young Indian Diaspora, a group of forty-two young people from sixteen countries visited the Sehgal Foundation headquarters to learn about the rural development work of the foundation. The group interacted with the staff; watched videos of interventions in water, agriculture, and governance; and took a tour of the green building. 
The district commissioner's office facilitated the visit, as Haryana and Punjab are the partner states for the program.

Strengthening governance initiatives across India

Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai and Sehgal Foundation joined hands to organize a one-day consultation on 27th September, 2017, on the role of legal aid clinics of academic institutions in securing access to justice for the underprivileged at the Legal Services Clinic, TISS, Mumbai. The initiative has benefited the community that it has been serving and the students and faculty who have been engaged in its various aspects.
