Welcome to Octobers edition of Spa Voice, the UK Spa Association‘s monthly newsletter.
 
With only four weeks to go until National Spa Week we have dedicated this edition to telling you all the exciting news around the public communications campaign itself, and giving you ideas on how to run your best National Spa Week yet!

We have already had lots of media interest in covering the National Spa Week story this year. Major titles including Glamour Magazine, Harper’s Bazaar, Marie Claire, Look, OK Magazine, County Weddings Magazine, The Sun and Sunday Times supplements, The Mirror, Metro, Top Sante and Sainsbury’s magazine have all indicated that they want to run features on the week….and that’s before we even get to the National and Regional Daily papers, TV and Radio shows!
 
We’ve also had quite a few journalists express interest in reviewing individual spas that are taking part in National Spa Week. They are often very specific in what they are looking for – so we are passing these enquiries on to spas that have already registered and who are promoting their offers on the www.spaweek.co.uk interactive map.
 
So if you are not already registered this year you really could be missing out on a great advertising opportunity that is completely free. Don’t forget it literally only takes five minutes (if that) to register your details on the website and there is no charge at all to take part…it’s absolutely FREE!
 
We have a number of suppliers also wanting to support their spa operators with special product offers for National Spa Week including our very own sponsors Aromatherapy Associates. All the details are available on the website.

How to Leverage Your Involvement in National Spa Week


National Spa Week is a fantastic event to be involved in, an event that is about raising awareness to the public about the importance of time out and visiting a spa.

It is growing hugely as an industry event, and many spa directors have given feedback on how it’s boosted them and how they have managed to leverage their involvement and spa during National Spa Week.

So how can you use NSW to your advantage? 
 

Buddy with the Right Partners for Maximum New Business


Sounds obvious, but look for businesses which target the same customer audience as you.

Fashion retailers, restaurants, wedding dress shops, bars, health clubs, florists and hair salons

Promote yourself to their clients. And vice versa
 
 Promote your offer on their website . . .



 

Ideas for Events and Social Media for National Spa Week?

So you have signed up to be part of The UK Spa Association, National Spa week, and looking for ways to how to get your customers through the door to gain the physical, mental and emotional benefits of regular spa visits.

What about advertising on your website and through social media how you are supporting National Spa week and offering treatments to support your local cancer charity, International Breast cancer day, or raising money for charities such as Look good feel better helping women with cancer or even for the young one's teens unite fighting cancer.

If you are a salon that has trained therapist in Cancer Massage, why not offer a sponsor a treatment for a cancer sufferer, this could be done by someone paying for a friend or relative to receive a treatment.
What about your regular clients when they tweet/like on facebook and all your social media platforms, mentioning your business and the #nsw @spavoice could be a free hand or foot massage this will really help to shout about your amazing business.

Mini treatment trials sessions such as neck and shoulder massage, back facial, mini facial, foot or hand massage.

Visit a spa day/session and have a treatment for mums and toddlers, mums, sister, best friend or partners with percentage of takings going to charity

Facing the prospect of growing your own business, meeting your sales targets, or advancing your own personal development we are all faced with options.  It is, very often, the biggest skill in making those options as productive as possible.  Without options, we cannot make choices.  The UK spa industry works in a larger parallel world….
 
Our industry must grow, for with only 8.5% of the UK adult population taking treatments from our (often) excellent spas and salons, we have a huge way to go to match the 13-15% in many European countries and 18-20% in the USA.  Imagine doubling the size of the UK spa market, for suppliers and operators alike this must be our goal.  Why join the UK Spa Association…
 
UK Spa Association has developed focussed workstreams, based on international knowledge and member requests.  The need for accurate, user-friendly market data via our benchmarking system will allow marketing decisions to return better revenues.  The need for greater customer numbers or higher price points (anyone got staff pay declining, I think not?) will be part of the confidence the spa operator needs, and the UK Spa Association is devoted to providing the backbone and infrastructure for this.
 
Beyond this, packed networking events at great venues, improving member benefits, and the huge National Spa Week are all the real “must do” parts and immediate ‘pay back’ parts of your membership fee.  I look forward to welcoming you into our membership
