Welcome to #spavoice
September 2017
Welcome to Septembers edition of Spa Voice, the UK Spa Association‘s monthly newsletter.

This month we focus our attention on the last quarter of the year with ingenious ideas to introduce and promote your business through our “Work Work Work” feature and also through National Spa Week which is fast approaching.

We have a number of important industry events on the horizon, including:
  • Olympia Beauty, 1-2nd October 2017
  • The Independent Hotel Show (Olympia)  17-18th October 2017,
  • Professional Beauty North (Manchester Central), 22nd-23rd October 2017
If you haven’t already signed up you can find out more information about all of these events here !

Finally, UKSA Chairman, Charlie Thompson reflects on the importance of networking events to help promote your business, stimulate your spa team and build further networking opportunities.

Don’t forget to take a look at our new website and read about our other exciting strategic priorities, all of which will help our industry grow on the roadmap to 2020.

Work work work . .

We’re over two thirds through 2017, which means it’s time for us to start thinking about our marketing for the rest of the year.

It’s time to plan, ready to maximise one of the busiest times of the year, you know what’s coming…. Yes, I apologise now, we’re talking Christmas.

How’s your marketing plan looking?

Are you organised from September onwards?

Why is National Spa Week so important for our Industry?

If we want our industry to grow it is imperative that we make the public understand the many benefits of regular spa attendance.

It is easy when you work in the industry, living and breathing your area of expertise, to assume that everyone magically knows the benefits too. That’s why everyone is coming to spas already right?

Wrong!

EXCITING NEWS: We are launching our first South West Spa Directors Assembly on 7th September!

Pushing boundaries, stretching budgets and creating even more revenue from the same space you did in the previous year are just some of the challenges that you, our valued member, now face on a daily basis. You wanted a regionally based support network for Operators, Managers & Owners alike where you could share common challenges, operational issues and also best practice.

So in March 2015 the UK Spa Association launched an inaugural Spa Director Assembly at the Mandarin Oriental in London.  Since then on a bi-monthly basis we have held nine additional Assemblies, both in the North and the South, each even more popular than the last, and each managed within a strict two hour slot so as to minimise time away from each operation.

It doesn’t matter the size of your facility  or whether it’s a five star 20 room hotel spa or a three room high street salon, all Operators, Managers and Owners of Spas or Salons are welcome to join this supportive group of industry professionals ready to share their experiences with you.

A key benefit of your UKSA membership! Simply contact Helena Field to register your attendance for the next Assembly – manager@spa-uk.org

Next Dates and Venues:
  • South West Spa Director Assembly, 7th September at Gaia Spa, Plymouth.
  • London Spa Director Assembly, 20th September at Bhuti, Richmond.
  • Northern Spa Director Assembly, 22nd September at The Devonshire Spa, Buxton.

A Note From The Chair . . .

Valuable Events

One of the exciting challenges we face as an industry, and therefore as the trade body, is the ever-growing number of suppliers to our market and sharing information with them to ensure they meet the real needs of spa operators .

At the UKSA we have, over the past four years, built networking events worth attending and these remain central to our objectives moving forward.  The key for us is always to provide value and reasons for both spa operators and suppliers alike to attend and thus keep a healthy balance on attendees.

As we continue to support the operators yet more, we have partnered with a number of the Autumn trade shows including Olympia Beauty, Professional Beauty North, Spa Life, and the Independent Hotel Show.  The last of these will enable us to really educate and inform the hotel management teams, who still remain deeply divided over how they focus on the ever growing business of ‘spa’.

However, when 15% - 25% of your bedroom sales are driven by spa packages it becomes quite compelling and I personally look forward to meeting our members in London, Manchester and Birmingham this Autumn as our events programme rolls on.
