Dear ,

Happy New Year everyone! I hope your 2017 has started off well.

I’ve been back at work 5 weeks now and the quiet time has allowed me to put in place some epic plans for 2017 as well as create an elearning product line that will revolutionise the cost of elearning in New Zealand. Imagine engaging, customised elearning modules from $1,900. This will be a game changer in custom content development. Check out our new product 19 slides for further details.
Save the Date
For those who haven’t planned their professional development for 2017, make sure you check out our events calendar and mentoring programme, with the highlight being the eLearnz conference in Auckland on 1-2 August with Nigel Paine back as MC.

So make sure you save the date and get your budget approved early. With picking up our first large Australian client last year, we are also taking eLearnz eLab to Sydney on 8-9 August which I am sure will have a lot of learnings!

Scroll to the bottom of this newsletter for a full list of our 2017 events. Our first workshop of the year is Designing Engaging eLearning on Thursday 16th March.

We have 5 Cyber Chats with lead learning on the hot topics and trends for 2017. All are overseas speakers who are leaders in their field. These will be followed up with face to face Tech Talks (showcase events) in Auckland and Wellington. This allows us to see what leading edge design and development is happening in NZ. The first Cyber Chat is 21 February on Micro Learning, and in March we will share what can be done with Artificial Intelligence and a free app to feed micro learning to staff.

Trends image

Our first event in 2017 is with Donald H Taylor on Micro Learning, what it is and why it is important. When I saw that he also had a one-minute, one-question poll to L&D professionals world-wide with one simple question: What will be hot in workplace L&D in 2017?, I was keen to know what Kiwis thought. When I contacted Donald, he had 9 responses! Wow. So I got busy in our community and on social media. Just on closing, another 113 kiwis had responded. Donald will share the results at the Micro Learning Cyber chat on 21st Feb (this was a hot trend in 2016 driven by North America).

We have also launched our new Ask an L&D Expert portal for the industry to ask experts as well as download and upload free resources. I have added some of my favourites and would love you to do the same. Leave us a note too.

Click here to access Ask an L&D Expert. You will need to click the ‘New User’ button on the top left hand of the page to register first.

I thought this year would be quieter on the travel front, but I am off to Johannesburg in a few weeks time! I was appointed the Auckland City leader for the Entrepreneurs Institute, and the training is at their Entrepreneurs resort, right on the edge of a game park. So look forward to some great photos in next month's newsletter! I’ll also be doing a bit of a side trip to Dubai to meet with our Docebo team too, so the start of the year has gone off with a bang!

And speaking of Bloom, these 5 years have flown by so we are having a Cocktail Party on Thursday 16th March to celebrate (please email Nicki for an invite).

Starting off as a recruitment business, and several business partners later, today we are an innovative, professional learning technologies business. Our official NZ partnership with Docebo LMS (which was just voted best corporate LMS in the world by PC Mag) is our cornerstone product. Docebo speaks for itself, and clients are growing fast in New Zealand with just under 20 companies using it. We aim to add another 20 by the end of the year. So if you don't have an LMS or are thinking of changing, download our LMS requirements rating checklist which you can use to give to potential vendors.

  DOCEBO NEWS

There’s no surprise we are proud official NZ partners. Docebo’s impressive growth and product innovation has just been recognised in the 2017 Fosway 9-Grid™.

CEO of Fosway Group David Wilson says:

“This positive momentum has been achieved in parallel with significant product development. It is encouraging to see this commitment to evolving both its solution capability and the customer experience.”

  TECH TOOL REVIEW

The tool I have really loved using over the last month is one I can’t share as it is part of our showcase in March. A no cost app, that uses artificial intelligence to distribute ongoing micro learning to staff. Very exciting. Instead, I share an app and a technique for super busy people.

My mentor, Roger Hamilton from the Entrepreneurs Institute teaches us to have a ‘not to do now’ list.

Often stress in our work comes form switching ‘frequencies’ of work. Working on a spreadsheet, to talking to a customer, to working on your project plan milestones etc etc etc, often in the space of an hour.  All of these activities require a different ‘energy’. Focused detail on spreadsheets (steel), happy and upbeat with customers (blaze), time and process focused on milestones (tempo).

So what I have done is set up my weeks around different frequencies as you can see from the Tick Tick screen capture to the right.

Steely comment image
SO when a client asks for a meeting, I usually tell them I am available on a Thursday or Friday. 80% of the the time this works well for them too. I do all my numbers (profit and loss, detailed promo planning etc) on a Monday. It’s called Steel Monday and the team know to stay away, because I am STEELY!
As seen by this unsolicited Slack message (another great app!).

So what do I do if I get an email from our accountant? Deal with it straight away? No, it goes into Tick Tick to deal with on Monday.  Now obviously this is the ideal and it doesn't always work out this way, but 80/20….

Of course, if you are just looking for a multi device, to do list, Tick Tick works for that too:)

  THIS MONTH'S GIVEAWAY

This month we have not one but two give aways.

The first is an elearning storyboard which uses the Gagne model to ensure highly engaging elearning.  Download here.

The second is for those people considering an LMS, or considering changing their LMS. We have a handy requirements check list where you can indicate essential and nice to have functionality and each vendor can tick yes or no whether that requirement can be provided.  Download here.
