LIQUID RING VACUUM SYSTEM   March 2017

When would I consider using a Liquid Ring

The Advantages of Liquid Ring

Liquid Ring Vacuum Pump in a System

By utilizingthe compression side of a liquid ring vacuum pump, it can equally well be usedas a compressor. The pump can also be connected to a collector tank by fittinga 4-way valve.

The tank is filled when the valve is in the vacuum position and emptied when inthe compress position. A 4-way valve can be operated manually or, using anactuator, can be configured to perform an automatic empty/fill cycle.

Process Applications

1.  Vacuum Distillation

Liquid liquid separation of heat sensitive materials. Vacuum distillation is routinely used in petroleum refineries to separate crude oil into fuels and petrochemical feedstocks.

2. Vacuum Evaporation

Concentrating a solution by evaporating/boiling under vacuum. Examples include desalination of seawater, concentrating black liquor in pulp& paper, concentrating sugarcane juices and sugar beet juices in food processing.

3. Vacuum Crystallization

The crystallization is effected by cooling a solution via adiabatic evaporation of the solvent by pressuredecrease. In food processing used extensively in the production of sugar andsodium chloride.

4.  Vacuum Degassing

Is widely used to prevent corrosion in equipment sensitive to the presence of gases like oxygen and carbon dioxide. The feed water to many industrial boilers undergoes vacuum deaeration to reduce the levels of oxygen and carbon dioxide to prevent corrosion in theboiler.

5.  Vacuum Reactors

A reduced pressure is required in some reactors in order to avoid high temperatures, to remove  products as they’re formed, or to shift the equilibrium in gas phase reactions.

6.  Vacuum Chilling

of meats, produce, tobacco and pharmaceuticals preserves  product quality and improves productivity.
Evaporative cooling is quicker than conventional refrigeration and therefore favored for applications in which rapid cooling is essential to product quality.

6.  Vacuum Filtration

used extensively in the process industries in liquid-solids separation operations involving chemicals, minerals pharmaceuticals, food and beverages.

7.  Drying
Vacuum drying involves the removal of a liquid from a solid by evaporation under vacuum. Used for drying filter cake, centrifuge or filter press cake discharge, drying heat sensitive pharmaceuticals and dyes, for drying polymers to a very low moisture concentration.

8.  Solvent Recovery

Vacuum applications recovering solvent for reuse in CPI, pharmaceutical, food processing, used with vacuum dryers, filters, and batch reactors. Typical solvents include alcohols (methanol, ethanol, IPA) toluene, xylene, and mineral spirits.

Vacuum Pump Applications

 POWER PLANT

Coal, geothermal, co-generation,the condenser creates the vacuum on the discharge of the turbine. The cold water causes the steam to collapse. Vacuum pump  initially  evacuates  the system and pumps down against the leak rate.

Vacuum pump systems in the power industry include dedicated hoggers, waterbox primers and condenser exhausters

PRODUCING PAPER

Pulp is fed to a paper machine where it’s formed as a paper web and the water is removed from it by pressing and drying. Liquid ring vacuum pumps are used throughout the forming and press section of a paper machine to remove water from the paper stock.

LABORATORY VACUUM

Most often a central system for refineries, chemical, universities, R&D, pharmaceutical, and health care facilities for a variety of applications including filtration, aspiration, evaporation, molecular distillation, and freeze drying.

Compressor Aplications

. VAPOR RECOVERY

Compressor application where the vapor can become the sealant. Oil storage tanks and gasoline terminals are two examples. In the recovery of benzene, vapors are captured via the liquid ring compressor which is sealed with benzene.

. GAS COMPRESSION

VDU low pressure gas boosters, chlorine gas compression, hydrogen gas compression.

Waste gas compressors to flare or flare gas recovery used as an energy source involved with refineries, CPI, and offshore production.
