We have the pleasure of presenting you with the first OpenEdition Freemium Newsletter. The newsletter is targeted primarily at libraries and institutions interested in the OpenEdition Freemium program for the development of Open Access academic publishing in the humanities and social sciences. It sets out to inform readers about developments in the content and services of OpenEdition’s platforms, as well as developments in the world of libraries and in access to humanities and social sciences information.

OpenEdition Books: three new publishers


ENS Éditions

The Éditions de l'École Normale Supérieure, created in 1993 in Fontenay-Saint-Cloud, had a fresh start after their move into new premises in Lyon, in 2000. In 2011, with the support of Institut National de Recherche Pédagogique publications, they have a new set of challenges after the merging of the Lyon-based ENS schools and the creation of Institut Français de l'Éducation within it. ENS Éditions publishes works from all around the world, whether produced by researchers in France or abroad, in line with the issues developed in the school’s research centres.

Les Éditions de l’IHEAL

For over 50 years, IHEAL has published humanities and social sciences research about Latin America, and especially highlights its multidisciplinary approach to the major issues of this region of the world. The publishers are jointly managed by the Institut des hautes études de l’Amérique latine (Université Sorbonne Nouvelle - Paris 3) and the Centre de recherche et de documentation sur les Amériques (Creda – UMR 7227, Université Sorbonne Nouvelle - Paris3 / CNRS).

Revues.org: two new journals opt for Open Access and join OpenEdition Freemium

Terrain. A journal studying European ethnology

Through theme issues, Terrain uses case studies to look at contemporary European society from all perspectives. It is open to extra-European studies from a comparative perspective and also to other disciplines in the humanities and social sciences, publishing works by ethnologists, anthropologists, sociologists, historians and psychologists based in France and abroad. Abundantly illustrated, Terrain is primarily an academic journal but due to its style and presentation is also accessible to non-specialists. Sixty-one issues are today available online in Open Access Freemium, i.e. the journal’s full back-catalogue since its creation in 1983.

Les Cahiers d’histoire. Critical history journal

Looking at a wide variety of themes, the aim of this journal is to develop a polarised history around the functioning of social dominations in their political, economic and cultural dimensions. This particular direction is accompanied by a reflexive approach to forms of production and the uses of historical knowledge in the processes of domination. Thirty-two issues are available today online and in Open Access, i.e. all issues since 2001.
